The Difference Between Homeopathic and Pharmaceutical hCG
When you choose a diet weight loss program, you certainly want to safely achieve optimal weight loss results in a realistic time period. The variety of diet options available today can be very confusing, making it difficult to determine which is the safest and most appropriate weight loss program for you to choose. At Body Beautiful Day Spa in Phoenix | Scottsdale, we think it is very important to educate our clients about products and programs so that they can make safe and healthy choices to achieve their weight loss goals.
So What’s the Difference?
Not all hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) is created equal. This human hormone is creating amazing results for clients and has attracted lots of interest, including the interest of enterprising business owners who look to capitalize on the hCG name and sell a counterfeit product. As a result, hCG is now being sold in some unlikely places like your grocery store, local health club, vitamin store, or on the internet. The problem is that “authentic” hCG is an FDA controlled substance that requires a doctor’s prescription. The homeopathic “hCG” is the equivalent of one drop of hCG in a bathtub full of water and often contain a mixture of vitamins and herbal stimulants.
In December, 2011 the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is advising consumers to steer clear of “homeopathic” hCG weight-loss products. Both the FDA and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) also issued to companies warning them that they are selling illegal homeopathic hCG weight-loss drugs that have not been approved by FDA, and that they are making unsupported claims.
Why Does This Matter?
There are a variety of potential and serious health risks associated with following a strict 500 calorie diet without the proper medication and supervision of a medically professional. Since the homeopathic hCG does not contain the necessary amounts of the hCG hormone, those who follow the diet are following an unsafe version of a VLCD (Very Low Calorie Diet). VLCDs are prescribed by health care professionals for people who are moderately to extremely obese as part of medical treatment to lessen health conditions caused by obesity, like high blood pressure. People on VLCDs are at increased risk for side effects that include gallstone formation, an imbalance of the electrolytes that keep the body’s muscles and nerves functioning properly, and an irregular heartbeat, which is why VLCDs must be medically supervised.
The Bottom Line
There is no reason why a medical professional would ever put a client on a VLCD or a weight loss program utilizing homeopathic hCG. Additionally, no one should be put on a VLCD and pharmaceutical hCG without first completing a detailed medical history, blood work, and providing medical supervision throughout the program.
